Learning at Bi-Baronial Collegium

The Barony of Selviergard, Oertha--This year's Bi-Baronial Collegium, held as a group event between the Barony of Selviergard and the Barony of Eskalya, was a grand day filled with many classes that taught a variety of subjects. Many people from all over the Principality of Oertha attended, the vast majority of which participated in more than one class.

The listing of classes included how to craft Elizabethan and Tudor necklaces, making leather belts, creating waxed linen covers, basic knotwork and illumination tutorials, and many, many more classes on a wide variety of subjects. A break in the day brought the court of Baron Halfdan and Baroness Elspeth in which they took the time to welcome all in attendance including some people new to the Society for Creative Anachronism. Additionally, the instructors were thanked in which Baroness Elspeth gifted them Leafs of Learning tokens. The Autocrats for the event, Mistress Anna di Caterina Neri and Domina Nemonna Vicana were also thanked for their hard work and gifted with bronze rings from Baron Halfdan's own hand and presented with pearls from Baroness Elspeth.

Two scrolls were given out for past recipients of the Order of the Claymore; one to Dominus Sextus Valerius Crusillus and the other to Yamato Yuki-san. These scrolls were created during the recent series of Scribal Nights held in Selviergard and are part of a project that involves crafting scrolls for award recipients.

From there, Shawn and Arabella, Prince and Princess of Oertha, opened a court of their own in which they took fealty and homage from members of the populace who were unable to attend Winter Coronet. Their Highnesses also took the time to acknowledge Lady Marjorie de ffeyrefeld for her amazing works in calligraphy and illumination and admitted her to the Order of the Argent Stylus. From there, gifts were given to the Baron of Selviergard and the Baroness of Eskalya by Their Highnesses.

Classes began again after the short break with students eager to learn new things. Some members took a break and visited with family and friends in the main hall; laughing and sharing news before racing off to their next class that they wanted to attend.

Throughout the day a visiting reporter from National Public Radio interviewed many of those in attendance. More information on her story will be made available as soon as it airs on the radio.

Baron Halfdan thanked all who made this event spectacular and added "It is YOUR desire to learn new things and taking what you learned and using that knowledge to craft, create, and grow that the Society in whole is a much more beautiful place filled with wonders and inspiration that help create and define The Dream for everybody."
