Oertha's Winter Coronet

The Principality of Oertha, Kingdom of the West--Well worth the trip to Winter’s Gate, Coronet officially began on Saturday, but Friday night their Highness’ Gregor and Isabella had a renewal of vows on site.

Saturday dawned dimly so far north, but for Winter’s Gate in January, it was positively balmy. Their Majesties Miles and Ǣsa up from California thought it still frigid, but we are thrilled that the weather warmed for their visit.

The 18 A&S Competitions were well entered, I believe there were at least two entries in each of the competitions. My personal favorite entries were the furry shield, the Russian Teddy Bear, and the Ursa Major and Minor embroidery.

When it came time to picking winners, I can’t remember all of them, but Cynehild and Yuki each made multiple trips to collect prizes. Huzzah for all of the entrants into the A&S Competitions!

There were 18 competitors in the coronet tournament. The introductions included several competitors being heralded in, some not in english. All came well-dressed with their consorts and fought earnestly in the eric. The new eric crafted by Winter’s Gate was noticed and well received by the populace.

His Majesty Miles, waited patiently to fight any bye fights produced from the tournament, and enthusiastically fulfilled this duty.

The final three competitors, Sir Soren v Sir Shawn, and Lord Aldyn v King Miles, each fought to the best of their abilities in a resounding clash of blades and shields. The Final round came between Sir Shawn and Lord Aldyn with Sir Shawn with each receiving the blessing of his Lady before the round began.

The final round was well fought, and fraught with tension. But in the end, Sir Shawn prevailed and he and his lady became the heirs to the Oerthan throne.

A wonderful feast followed the fighting, I don’t believe anyone left hungry, and even the vegetarians and those with dietary restrictions were able to gorge themselves on the bounty.

There were several courts held over the course of the event. As of the writing of this article, not all of the awards have been posted to the Kingdom website, so I apologize for any honors I may miss in this listing.

Gwyneth was named to the Bards of Oertha. Elis Isabella Hawke was raised to Viscountess. Camshron, Ciara, and Sapphira were awarded the Diamond Willow. Harmonie, Kleist and Aislin were awarded their Award of Arms. Clare Elena was named Court Baroness. Alienor was elevated to the Order of the Pelican. Gregor was elevated to the Order of the Chivalry.

In addition to the coronet tourney, there was also a rose tourney.

Ellisef fought for her Free Scholar prize. Much fencing was had by all.

And in what I sincerely *hope* becomes a tradition. An indoor snowball fight in which children, populace, Majesties, Highnesses, and Incipientnesses all participated. With much giggling, pelting and enjoyment by participants and spectators alike was had.
