Super Heroes, Super Villains Clash

The Barony of Eskalya, Oertha--The Barony of Eskalya hosted a Samhain celebration in which participants were encouraged to come as their favorite super hero or super villain as they may have looked like in the time period of the Society for Creative Anachronism.  Many people attended, and the plethora of different themed clothing worn by the majority of the celebrants was quite fun to behold.

People dressed from many different aspects of a culture that is very well represented in the Society.  Marvel, of course, took the day, but DC, Star Wars, and even Nintendo was represented as well. "Seeing all the awesome representations of heroes and villains was amazing!" the Autocrat, Anna di Caterina Neri, declared after the event in her missive to the populace.

Other activities included a rapier tournament, a heavy tournament, and even some dancing.  In the Rapier Tournament, while only Mistress Cynehild Cynesigesdohtor and Lady Angela of Eskalya took part, was a joy to watch as each combatant displayed skill and prowess on the field.  In the Heavy Tournament, after fighting Sir Incognito, Sir Viresse  de Lighthaven and Lord Sevastian Agafangelovich Golystin took to the field to show off their skills with multiple rounds.  Sir Viresse was overheard on numerous occasions speaking like Yoda during the tournament which brought smiles and laughter to those watching the fighting. 

Both of the fighting tournaments were to help raise money for the Providence Children's Hospital, and through the donations of the entrants and those who watched the tournaments, $240 was raised for this worthy cause.

Throughout the event many of the populace enjoyed the day talking with friends or working on a myriad of small projects.  Food was placed out on a table for people to partake in cakes, sweets, and other delights.  There was even an activity for the children in which Sir Yoda read a couple of scary stories to the youth much to the delight of children and even some adults.

In the court of Elspeth, Baroness of Eskalya, Her Excellency thanked everybody for attending the event and celebrating the Samhain season.  The Autocrat was brought forward for her announcements and award presentations.  The Heavy Tournament saw Sir Viresse win the tournament as well as being named The Most Chivalrous Fighter by popular acclaim, in which she gifted her prize to the consort of her opponent.  For the winner in the Rapier Tournament Angela of Eskalya was named victor.  Lady Angela of Eskalya also won the Most Inspirational Consort contest for her caring of Lord Sevastian during the heavy tournament.  The Best Super Hero/Villian was awarded to Lady Úlfhildr Sverradóttir who came to the event dressed as Loki and for the Best Accessory Yamano Yuki-san was awarded for her Hobgoblin pumpkin bombs. Additionally, Lord Kolskeggr Ungi and Lady Ciara der Alcan were recognized for the highest donation of the day to the Providence Children's Hospital.

Our Society prides itself on being creative; that is part of the game we play.  It is safe to assume that events like these, where creativity is encouraged, are a great way to express our imagination and ingenuity.
