Oertha's Prince and Princess Revealed!

The Principality of Oertha--Winter’s icy fingers gripped at the witness’s cloaks in attempt to draw them away to the warmth of the hall but the vast majority weathered the harsh climes of winter in Oertha to observe the choosing of a new Prince and Princess. Inside; banners were hung on the wall, tables were decorated with gusto, and the hall was filled by those around the Principality in attendance--a welcome sight as many Oerthans gathered this weekend in great numbers to partake in something special, the Winter Coronet and Investiture.

The opening court of the day saw some announcements and the swearing of fealty to the King and Queen of the West by the baronages of the various baronies in the Principality and by the Knights, Laurels, Pelicans, and other Peers of the Realm. In addition, Mistress Caitríona inghean ui Chionaodha was inducted into the Order of the Laurel for her many wondrous works in the artistic aspect of the Society. From there, those who would fight in the tournament to determine the next Prince and Princess of Oertha were brought in, amid great pageantry and splendor, to swear the oath and prepare themselves for the tournament.

The Coronet Tournament was fought with axes in accordance with the whim of Prince Duncan. Axes are, by far, the most devastating of weapons in such a tournament, adding to the ferocity of each combatant in the field. Ten fighters entered the tournament field and many who fought had great grins on their faces; testament how much fun they were having. Before the finals, it was Viscount Sir Shawn, Viscount Sir Kenric, and Fellbjorn Gunnarsson. With a mighty cleave Viscount Sir Kenric struck down Fellbjorn Gunnarsson, which landed Viscount Sir Kenric into the finals. In the next fight, Viscount Sir Shawn faced Lord Sevastian Agafangelovich Golystin, who was fighting the bye. The final combatants of the list readied themselves for the chance to win the Coronets of Oertha.

In the finals, with the populace watching intently, the combatants put their skills to the test against each the other. Viscount Sir Kenric landed his blow against Viscount Sir Shawn in the first bout of the finals. In the second fight, Viscount Sir Shawn won his match; a swift blow announcing the fact that now both combatants had one win and won loss. The next fight would indeed be a close one. In the end, the final bout between the two juggernauts ended in Viscount Sir Shawn defeating his worthy opponent and taking the title of Lord Borealis; crowning his love as Lady Borealis--both to become the 63rd Prince and Princess on the morrow. Marc and Patricia, the King and Queen of the West, as well as Duncan and Violet, Prince and Princess of Oertha, witnessed alongside many of the populace.

After the Coronet Tournament, the West Kingdom Royal Guild of Fence held a Prize Tournament for Hallbǫrn Erlændar son in which he, through skill and prowess, would show that he was able and willing to attain the next level within the guild. The tournament was witnessed by King Marc and Princess Violet who withstood the icy breeze to watch the accomplished rapier fighters. At the same time, the Roses Tournament, a popular activity with many, was held. Many Roses were bestowed upon the fairer sex through the efforts of valiant lords.

Several awards and recognitions were presented in the evening court of the day. Ash Leafs from the Kingdom of the West were bestowed upon worthy gentles that continued to increase their skills in combat, Awards of Arms were given to those who continue to support The Dream, and many more awards and honors bestowed. Among them was Baroness Saphira the Navigator who was inducted into the Order of the Pelican by their Majesties, King Marc and Queen Patricia.

After the end of court, the Principality competition for “Original Morality Story or Play” took place in the Chapel. Lady Silvia of Thrace offered a wonderful rendition of the theme in which she shared her own story sung as a song. After her performance The Batty Puppeteers, a group from Selviergard, performed a marionette show as their entry into the Morality themed competition.

Investiture Court on Sunday saw some awards and many honors bestowed by both Prince and Princess as well as King and Queen, including House Comitatus becoming a Pillar of the West. After the attendants of Prince Duncan and Violet was released the ceremony for the new Prince and Princess started in which Shawn and Arabella were crowned as Prince and Princess of Oertha. After accepting fealty from the Greater Officers and the Peers of Oertha the new Prince and Princess spoke words of thanks to all and the end of the event was upon us.

The event hall was quickly cleaned up as members from around the Principality made their way back to their own lands. Memories of a very fun and exciting event still in their heads as they travelled the roads to homes that awaited them eagerly.
